MORE TO DO IN LAS VEGAS

It's not all about the strip in Las Vegas. Snow skiing at Mount Charleston in the winter months or a romantic hike and picnic in the summer months, adrenaline ATV Quad tours, ride along the trails in the great outdoors at the Valley of Fire, fly through the desert on a zip line system with speeds up to 50 mph at Bootleg Canyon Flightlines, get behind the wheel of a Ferrari-Lamborghini-Aston Martin-or Porsche at the Las Vegas Speedway, shoot a real machine gun at The Gun Store, take a helicopter ride over the Las Vegas Strip or the Grand Canyon or Hover Dam, take the controls and command the skies with a fighter pilot, at Sky Combat Ace or skydive at Vegas Indoor Skydiving and more- more- more- just ask your hotel concierges for more.

HEADS-UP

When your coming to Vegas and are planning to gamble be wise, when the economy fell in 08 they set back all the video games, your  chances of winning are slim and none. The video games are a machine after all and can be manipulated, so stick to the table games its a safer bet !!!

FREMONT STREET EXPERIENCE LAS VEGAS

This is your last stop on the strip at the far end of north Las Vegas, its called Old Town or Fremont Street. Its about four blocks of "pedestrians only" walk ways with hotels/casinos, retail carts, food, live music, and plenty of people watching. There is a high wire chair ride that runs down the center of fremont street and from dusk till midnight daily a music light show on the dome ceiling every hour. Don't miss the shark tank swimming pool and take a 3-story water slide ride thru the shark tank inside the pool at the Golden Nugget hotel, wow! Remember you can take the Deuce but the Ace Gold express is faster, you can use the same bus ticket on both busses, $7 for a 24 hour pass. lynnlasvegas.blogspot.com

STRATOSPHERE LAS VEGAS

The Stratosphere is the last hotel/casino on the strip heading north on the south west side. It is unique because of its hight and a great place for thrill seekers. At the top of the tower there are rides called Insanity, Big Shot, X Scream and Sky-Jump (855 feet at 40 mph) you must be insane !!! In addition, there is the 'Top of the World' fine dining restaurant that rotates 360 degrees every 80 minutes, the view is awesome. For less $$$ fun try Roxy's Diner a 50s joint where the wait staff sings and does the twist for you. There are really no other perks its just your typical Vegas stuff. Up- next Fremont Street Experience. lynnlaavegas.blogspot.com

RIVIERA AND CIRCUS CIRCUS LASVEGAS

I'm going to do both hotels together because we have left the most popular section of the Las Vegas strip. Theses two hotels are about a mile from Wynn and Encore heading north and across the street from each other. Circus Circus is really the only hotel/casino on the strip that caters to kids, so if your not into screaming kids or stressed out parents this place is not for you. It has The Adventuredome ( an indoor theme park) and circus acts, a small boring pool, some eats, cheap room rates and thats about it. Riviera has nothing special except a great history from the good old days and cheap room rates. Both hotels are old in need restoration. They are, however, in walking distance to the Hilton hotel and convention center, that are off the strip. Next-up the Stratosphere. lynnlasvegas.blogspot.com

WYNN AND ENCORE LAS VEGAS

I'm writing about Wynn and Encore together because they are so similar and both owned by Wynn. He is a master of perfection, even the water fountains and telephones are gold, every detail is reviewed by him. Wynn's two hotels are not kid friendly, he does not allow strollers for fear they will damage the beautiful floors and carpeting. These hotels are top of the line and good behavior is a must. There is top $$$ shopping and many great eateries, as well as, a great and comfortable spots book, with beautifully dressed cocktail ladies. Check out the Lake of Dreams, its a light and water show, every half hour from 7p.m.-12:30a.m. and its FREE. Encore beach  club "Surrender" and XS where the dance floor leads to a patio and a stunning pool. In Wynn "Tryst" is the place to be with its 94-foot waterfall as the centerpiece for the night club. Le Reve is the show to see at Wynn's and don't forget to look outside at the spectacular gardens and water falls and don't miss the marque its the best on the strip. When you exit the Wynn spent some time in the space ship mall called fashion show across the street, there is lots to eat and you can shop tell you drop. THE PALAZZO LAS VEGAS

The Palazzo is owned and located next door to the Venetian on the south east side of the street heading north. They are connected by a walk-way in-side and not owned by the big boys, MGM and Harrah's !! Palazzo has some nice eateries, along the walk-way on the strip, a great sports book, modern and comfortable but it does not have any horse racing, although it does have great bathrooms with tv's so you won't miss the action. Don't miss Jersey Boys its a hot item or the Exotic Car Showroom. Next-up Wynn and Encore.   lynnlasvegas.blogspot.com

THE VENETIAN LAS VEGAS

The Venetian is across from Treasure Island, heading north on the south east side of the street. It is a beautifully done hotel/casino, with Gondola's riding down the Grand Canal thru cafes and fantastic shopping areas, all while being serenaded by your gondolier. If you are not checking-in you still must check-out the lobby area, look up and see wonderful art work on the ceilings and look down and see the most exguisite tile work on the floors!!!  Madame Tussauds wax museum is worth seeing, as well as the pools on the 4th floors. There are strolling performers to entertain you while you are enjoying a meal in their many eatery's or shopping tell you drop. Blue Man Group and Phantom of the Opera are popular shows. Next-up is The Palazzo.    lynnlasvegas.blogspot.com

TREASURE ISLAND LAS VEGAS

Treasure Island is next door to the Mirage ( you can take the free tram if you want ) on the south west side of the street heading north. It has Mystere, a Cirque du Soleil  show, the free Sirens of Treasure Island show ( not for kids ) it once was about pirates and action, now its just boring and r rated. Gilley's is fun, with live entertainment, line dancing and Gilley Girls, food and drink, of course!! Limited eats, Canter's Deli is my pick, no real shopping, pools ok, sports book ok. service ok, although it is an independently owned hotel/casino and i like that.    Next-up The Venetian. lynnlasvegas.blogspot.com

THE MIRAGE LAS VEGAS

The Mirage has a beautiful lagoon out front with a volcano that spews smoke and fire every evening on the hour, beginning at dusk. When you enter the hotel/casino relax at the atrium bar for awhile, then check out the fantastic aquarium in front of the hotel check-in. Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat is a pleasant place to be, go early to see the animals while they are awake or at feeding times. If you like the Beatles you'll love The Beatles Love show by Cirque du Soleil or check out the Terry Fator show, remember him from America's got Talent tv show? The Mirage has lots of good eats especially if your in the mood for deli, there's Carnegie, pick up a sandwich togo and sit on the outside patio in front of the hotel to people watch. The sports book is big and nice, but the chairs are so heavy you can't move them!! Some of the chairs in the casino are very uncomfortable, as well. Service is ok, pool is great, nightlife as always, shopping not so much. There is a free tram that will take you next door to Treasure Island. The Mirage is across the street from Harrah's heading north on the south west side if the street. Next-up Treasure Island.   lynnlasvegas.blogspot.com

HARRAH'S LAS VEGAS

Harrah's is located in the heart of the Las Vegas strip on the south east side heading north across from the Mirage hotel. Its a fun and busy place with good service, there's not much in the shopping area, some good dining and an ok sports book. Do check out the Carnaval Court, outside, for lots of entertainment. It has live music from noon till 2am and flair bartenders that will thrill you with their drink mixing ( drinks are $$ ). If you like country and western enjoy a meal and beverage at Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill with  live bands and lots of dancing. For some daytime entertainment to keep you from spending your life savings in the casino, see Defending the Caveman or the Mac King Comedy Magic Show ( low $$ ). Next-up the MIRAGE    lynnlasvegas.blogspot.com

IMPERIAL PALACE LAS VEGAS

Imperial Palace is on the south east side of the street heading north, just past the Flamingo. There is not much going on in the palace, it does have the Hash House A Go Go ( great food ), Frank Marino's Divas Las Vegas ( low $ for a awesome show) and the Auto Collections. There is an over-pass in the back that will take you to Harrah's hotel or the Monorail.   Next-up Harrah's      lynnlasvegas.blogspot.com

FLAMINGO LAS VEGAS

Welcome to bugsy's Flamingo, one of the oldest on the strip, although, it has had a make over in the hotel section. At present they are giving the sports book a new look and hopefully the restrooms are up next !! Because of the Flamingo's age it has beautiful old growth trees surrounding the pool area and the Wildlife Habitat. There's a nice outside patio bar where you can sip a cool beverage and take in the view. If you like head-banging music, rowdy people, and the beautiful people, you'll love the pool, its has volley ball, basket ball and a slide all in the pool !! There's also a nice patio bar out front on the strip for great people watching, as well as, Margaritaville, for fun, food and drink. There's little shopping, some entertainment ( Donny and Marie) good cocktail service, the buffet is ok and thats about it. Next -up Imperial Palace.    lynnlasvegas.blogspot.com

BALLY'S LAS VEGAS

Bally's is the old MGM that was burnt badly in the 1980 fire that killed 85 people. Its located across the street from Bellgio on the south east corner heading north. It is an out of date hotel and in need of a face lift. Bally's has some shopping, little dinning, a sports book and the last of the Vegas show girls in Jubile, however, it is a friendly place with good service. Next-up the Flamingo.    lynnlasvegas.blogspot.com

CAESARS PALACE LASVEGAS

Caesars Palace is home to Celine Dion and Elton John, very popular shows. The best part of Caesars is the shopping at The Forum Shops, its perfection, with three talking fountains at the beginning, middle and end. Don't forget to see the aquarium at the end, its very cool. There's plenty of dining, nightlife, shows, outside fountains and more. The casino and spots book are good and comfortable with ok service. Next-up Bally's. Caesars Palace is next door to Bellagio's on the south west side of the street heading north. lynnlasvegas.blogspot.com

Bellagio hotel and casino Las Vegas

Bellagio is my jewel on the strip, it has everything you could want to make you feel special. It is eloquent and is beautifully done. The Fountains of Bellagio are a favorite, with more than 1,OOO dancing fountains located right on the strip, it feels just like your in a far away paradise. When you check-in look up to see Dale Chihuly's Glass Sculpture and don't miss the Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, the design changes with each season, it is spectacular!!! Take a walk around the pool and the hall-ways by the conference  rooms, MAGNIFICENT!  Bellagio is chic and classic, so if your looking for a rowdy place this is not for you. Nightlife and dinning no problem, great buffet, ($ upper-end) shopping high dollar. The sports book very comfortable, although the tv's are in the way of the big screens!!! Good service all around. Bellagio is across the street from Paris hotel on the south west side of the street heading north. Next-up Caesars Palace.   lynnlasvegas.blogspot.com

PARIS HOTEL AND CASINO

Paris is located next door to Planet Hollywood on the south east side of the street heading north. It has all the usual stuff; medium size casino, not so good sports book, dinning, no real shopping, a nice pool and so on. The best of Paris is the view across the street, of the Bellagio water show from the strip side bar upstairs at the Sugar Factory American Brasserie or the Eiffel Tower Restaurant. Next-up the Bellagio    lynnlasvegas.blogspot.com

PLANET HOLLYWOOD HOTEL AND CASINO LAS VEGAS

Planet Hollywood is across from the Cosmopolitan on the south east side of the strip heading north. It has  one of the best shopping stops on the strip, look for the Miracle Mile. Its home to more than 170 specialty shops where you can shop tell you drop, while living thru an indoor rainstorm. It is about a mile long and goes in a circle, can't tell you how many times i have gotten lost in there. The casino is not bad but after awhile they all start to look the same, cocktail service is good, sport book is nice but you have to spend about $100. to get a free drink ticket, whats up with that?? The pool is on the 6th floor, can't see the strip, bummer but it does have a kids pool. Lots of dinning spots including inside the Miracle Mile,  do stop at Cabo Wabo, a stripside patio, for a drink and app. Just a heads- up to the ladies, if you sit up front in Cabo Wabo on the strip and are in a dress keep your legs closed, the people walking on the strip below you can see right up tour dress!!!  Next-up Paris.     lynnlasvegas.blogspot.

Cosmopolitan hotel and casino Las Vegas

Cosmopolitan hotel is the newest on the strip and the best part of that is, it is truly on the strip! You can eat, drink and gamble, while people watching at the same time. The pools are the best part of the Casmo, there are three of them, one up top of the strip where you have great views of all of the strip and one in back where you have views of City Center. The third is the party pool connected to a bar full of nightlife fun. There is a hideaway bar that is so cozy with a big fireplace, pool table, big comfy couches -- very romantic, if you can find it, you will like it .The casino gaming is upper end ( meaning more expensive games) the sports book is not to my liking, small and uncomfortable, lots of bars and dinning, of course !! There's no shopping per say, but Casmo does have a big big beautiful chandelier in the casino. Next up is Planet Hollywood.    lynnlasvegas.blogspot.com

CITY CENTER LASVEGAS

City Center is a masterpiece of design; weird buildings, strange water fountains, a restaurants  that hangs from the ceiling, ( check it out in Crystals shopping mall) beautiful art and much more !! Don't forget to ride the free tram from  Monte Carlo, to City Center, Crystals and the Bellagio Hotel. If you like Elvis go see Viva Elvis, the main stage show in the Aria Hotel in City Center. Mandarin Hotel in City Center has the Mandarin Bar on the 23rd floor for a sunset view of the strip, relax with a cocktail and rest your mind. The sports book is not bad, i believe non-smoking, the casino has the more expensive gaming machines, cocktail service is ok,  lots of food and shopping, mostly upper -end, the pool is nothing to write home about, yet is does do the pool-party thing. Next-up the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino.   lynnlas.blogspot.com

MONTE CARLO

Monte Carlo is  located next door to New York - New York heading north on the south west side of the strip. It is one of the older hotels on the strip and is smaller and more intimate. Before you enter check out Diablo's Cantina out front , a traditional Mexican restaurant , good food, medium priced, great mixed music, and a outdoor patio for people watching. The casio is smaller than most, some shopping and has a nice sports book, good dinning and a food court. There is a free tram in the back of the casino to the right of the pool that will take you to the new City Center, shopping at Crystals, and to the Bellagio hotel, Don't forget to look at the pool from the tram deck, its nice, with a lazy river and volley ball. NEW YORK-NEW YORK

New York- New York is across the bridge from MGM on the south west side of the street heading north, the one with the Roller Coaster running around the outside of the building. It is somewhat kid friendly and has the Coney Island Emporium Arcade. The design of the building looks just like a mini New York, including the  famous bridge and a tribute of 9-11, very well done! The food court is the best on the strip with all eateries done in New York style and taste. The sports book is not good, very small, poorly located and uncomfortable. The casino is nice with good cocktail service, ask for Won or Barbara, they are the best! The next blog is Monte Carlo.    lynnlasvegas,blogspot.com

All about MGM hotel an casino

MGM is across the bridge from the Tropicana on the south east side of the strip heading north, it is a very large hotel with many places to eat, mostly upper-end, some shopping, a great pool with a lazy river and party pool. Check out the Lion Habitat it opens at 11am. When they first bring the lions in they throw ground beef on the glass so the lions are in your face, the kids love it. Lions sleep 20 something hours a day so go early to see the lions at play. The Monorail is in the back of MGM it runs high off the ground to access the hotels on the strip and ends at the convention center and hilton. The rail is more expensive then the strip transportation, $5 per ride, that means if you get off you are done, so get an all-day pass and p.s. the rail is way faster then the strip transportation.  Oh i almost forgot to mention, that if your rich there are the MGM Mansions, excluded from the other guests that offer whatever you desire. All about Tropicana hotel and casino Las Vegas

Tropicana is the first hotel on the south east side of the strip heading north across from the Excalibur. It is one of the oldest hotels on the strip and just recently had a make-over. Their are two hotel buildings that are painted white and look like a mental hospital, put a splash of red to match your Tropicana logo or something ???  Lots of old growth trees surround the pool, as well, Club Nikki for pool parties. There's not many places to dine and no real shopping, however, the sport book is the most modern on the strip, you have your own private betting screen at your seat ( just sign-up) and they don't block the view of the big screens. The seats are really comfy with many many tv screens. Oops there's no smoking, we know its bad for us, but sports fans want to get loose !!!  Don't forget to see the Las Vegas Mob Experience, an interactive setting to learn about the mob's role in building Las Vegas. Next is MGM --- lynnlasvegas.blogspot.com

All about Excalibur hotel and casino Las Vegas

Excalibur at night looks beautiful with all its lights on. If your coming to Vegas to take a break from your kids and have some romance, the Excalibur is not for you. It's one of the few family friendly hotels on the strip. There's the Fun Dungeon Arcade, Tournament of Kings dinner show and Dick's Last Resort with sassy service for food and fun. The sports book is good and comfortable with good service, there's the usual stuff, dinning,  gaming, shows and a nice size pool. The Excalibur is inexpensive and centrally locate  to the bridges that take you to the MGM, New York - New York  and Tropicana. My next blog; all about Tropicana. Lynnlasvegas.blogspot.com

all about luxor hotel and casino las vegas

Luxor the 2nd hotel on south west side of strip---The Luxor pyramid is a 36-story structure and is home to the most powerful beam of light in the world [42.3 billion candles] and the Luxor sphinx is 25% larger than the sphinx that guard The Great Pyramid of Giza. The pyramid inside the atrium level has inclinators , aka elevators, in all four corners that transport guest up at a 39 degree angle. The sports book is non-smoking, very rare for vegas, although, about 4 years ago they passed a new smoking law that only allows smoking in the casinos. The sports book is nothing special, and service is ok, but don't forget to check out Bodies and Titanic exhibitions on the atrium level.  Just a heads-up, vegas is no longer run by the mob, but don't let that fool you, there are 2 big boys in town, The MGM International and Harris, they own the strip! What monopolies do exist ? So take advantage of any deals you can get. Most hotels have free shuttles to their sister properties, package deals and discount ticket books.

first hotel on the south end of las vegas strip -- mandalay bay

Mandalay Bay is huge and has a walk- way to Luxor and Excalibur hotels, or you can take the free tram. The front tram is to Luxor and the south side of Excalibur, the back tram is an express to the north side of  Excalibur that connects you to the bridges to the MGM- New York- New York and Tropicana. Mandalay Bay's pool is awesome, it has a lazy river and you can surf. The Shark Reef is a must see and don't forget the beautiful water falls out front. Dining is not a problem, there are many choices, night-life is booming, check out The House of Blues and The Hotel Bar on the 64th floor at  sun-set,when it opens, what a view of the strip!! The spots book is nice with many tv,s 2 very big ones, although, the designers of spots books in vegas can't seem to figure it out --- don't put the little tv's in front of the chairs, we can't see the big screens! The casino is endless and the cocktail service is so so. Don't forget to tip, your drink may be free while you gamble but the service is not! One dollar is good. Next blog all about  Luxor.

the las vegas strip

i live on the las vegas strip and thought i would blog about what i see. hope this helps you to enjoy your visit. the strip runs south to north from mandalay bay south to circus circus north. further north is the stratosphere and your last stop is old town "freemont street"light show. remember when your on the strip everything appears closer than it is, so if you are walking take water, vegas climate is very dry. best months to come to vegas; march april may september october november. summer is hot hot 100-112 ouch! there are two forms of transportation on the strip, the deuce a double-deck bus and the ace gold. the deuce runs 24/7 every 7 to 15 minutes on the strip, it is very slow, stops at every crack in the road. the ace gold looks like a small train, it is the express bus, way faster, runs every 7 to 15 minutes depending on time of day from 9am to midnight. ticket machines are at most bus stops for $7. for a 24 hour pass which can be used on both buses anytime during that 24 hour period. you must have exact change or a card to buy a ticket. your hotel concierge is your best friend in vegas, they are most often located near the hotel check-in. the concierge knows everything or will find anything you need to know---shopping, shows, food, shuttles, maps, night-clubs ,beach/pool parties, forms of transportation and much more. be informed of your choices, be less stressed and have more fun! don't forget to tip, only the big boys at the top get rich here, not the ones on the other end.   don't forget this is a 24/7 drinking town, don't drink and drive, there are to many on the road already. use the bridges and crosswalks  a ride to the hospital will cost you about $700. remember  even if vegas is sometimes called  sin city  they will take you to jail       each time blog i will tell you whats -up in each hotel as i move from the beginning of the strip (mandalay bay) to  the end at freemont street.   if you have a question for me just blog me and i'll find what you need.
